At Heartprint Photography this seems to have been the year of the twins, lots and lots of twins! Look at these two newborns, they are just so content and peaceful…
Our studio features a variety of seating and props including chairs, benches, tutus, large flowers, brightly colored name blocks, translucent Chinese umbrellas, and brightly colored trunks. Have a special request? Feel free to run your idea by us, we love fresh new ideas! Have a favorite stuffed animal, blanket, or toy? Bring it along and we will try to incorporate it into your session. Does your subject love a special sport or activity? Bring along their soccer ball, dance outfit, musical instrument. Anything that defines your loved one, be it big or small, is an option. We want your session to be as personal as possible!
Sessions usually last 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. This allows time for change of clothes, a snack, and breaks. For children, please try to book a time where they will be well rested and fed. Sometimes bringing a favorite stuffed animal or toy can be reassuring to young subjects, and a non-messy snack and drink is often a good idea. We strive to make this a relaxing experience for all. For newborn sessions, we suggest 7-10 days old as being the perfect time for first portraits (they change so quick, capture that newborn look while they are still sleepy and all curled up).
CLOTHING
Here, more often than not, simple is best. You will want people viewing your images to say “your child or family looks fabulous”, not “what a great outfit”! For the most part, logos and large prints are best avoided. Bright and cheery is always welcome. Feel free to bring more than one change of clothes and your favorite accessories such as hats, dress-up pieces, tutus. If shooting more than one subject, coordinating outfits are best. Think jeans and brightly colored polos, crisp white shirts and khakis, you get the idea! For newborn or babies naked is always best!
Maternity Sessions
Pregnant women have beautiful curves and you will want to show them. Please feel free to bring pre-pregnancy clothes, pretty, modern camisoles, lingerie, tank tops- anything clingy, fitted or stretchy in solid colors (white, black, red, blue…), snug jeans, we can unzip then, white button down shirt, semi-sheer wraps, scarves, long skirts that fit below the belly, saris, native fabrics, wedding veils, black pants (yoga pants work well), make it as personal as you would like. With selective posing and lighting we can make even bare bodies perfectly private and discrete. If your partner is up for it, please bring him along. This is a special moment in both your lives, we love the look of muscular, protective forearms and shoulders next to womanly curves!
What should your husband wear? Men should bring jeans or khaki pants or any other dark bottoms, rumpled (not starched) plain white shirts, a regular white and/or black crew-neck t-shirt are all great choices, solid, dark colors, black, dark brown, navy blue and charcoal gray tops and bottoms. Layers are great; wear the t-shirt under a crew- or v-neck sweater or jacket.
Other suggestions? Get a manicure and a pedicure a day or two in advance, Do wear make-up, and style your hair. Don’t wear anything binding to the shoot – you don’t want marks on your skin. Relax, your images and you will look beautiful.
We suggest having the session take place about six weeks before your expected due date. We find that this is just the right time to capture you at your very finest, and as sometimes babies have a way of arriving on their own schedule and not always ours, we wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity because of an early arrival!
Newborn Sessions
Our newborn sessions take place in our warm quiet studio during the first week or so when your newborn is still at the sleepy, curled-up stage. We set up a special staging area for newborns as to not startle or disturb. It is such a special and fleeting moment in a newborn’s life, we always recommend to new parents to consider capturing images at this very early stage.
For newborn sessions, we suggest no later than 7-10 days old if possible as the first week is the perfect time for first portraits (they change so quick, capture that newborn look while they are still sleepy and all curled up). For newborn or babies naked is always best, but a cute hat or blanket can add welcome color and texture.
